The Horse-Human Connection

“The horse is representative of the intuitive aspect of human nature.”
So observes psychiatrist, influential thinker, and founder of analytical psychology, Carl Jung. He also affirms that, “by working and living with horses, we become attuned with our inner truths and balance which contribute to the evolution of the human psyche.”

Horses naturally exhibit the ultimate quality of living with honesty, respect for others, fairness, and unconditional love. Being in their midst often revitalises our lives because they take us back to our roots, to nature, to movement, and to a challenge and adventure that is dependent on love and mutual understanding.

Why We Focus on Horses

Throughout the ages, horses have guided humans on personal journeys which have led to healing, self awareness, emotional and spiritual growth. Because horses connect us with our intuitive core, they can teach us about ourselves, how to nurture creativity, and how we can explore powerful connections with nature and life itself.
Working with horses teaches us about ourselves and who we truly are on the inside. Horses help us to thaw out and teach us about love, a powerful incentive for individual growth. We offer each child the opportunity to learn life lessons through the interaction with our horses. They also learn about the horse-human relationship, basic horsemanship, and relaxed, safe, informal riding.

Why the Horse is a Great Teacher

Horses provide pleasure, fun, interest, physical stimulation, challenge, goals and repetition, which are all factors conducive to learning. With their natural intuitive guidance and friendship, horses help humans to live a fuller, more meaningful life no matter what age.

The Aim of Our Programmes

Our programmes offer each child the opportunity to learn life lessons through their association with horses, to learn about human-horse relationship, basic horsemanship, and life skills which will prepare them for their journey into adulthood.

The natural world is our earliest and most efficient teacher. Children are attracted to both the meaningful activity of the farm and to the involvement and interaction with living things that it implies. We believe the experience of farm life is appropriate in these complex times and serves to link wilderness with civilization. For the child it points to ‘where things come from’ and fosters respect for nature, observational skills, foresight, a sense of responsibility, patience, and a deeper understanding of one’s place among people.

Children often lose interest in what they do. Allowing them to give up only teaches them that it’s OK to quit. Quitting when the going gets tough leads to lack of confidence, provides no room for growth, and offers no sense of achievement or accomplishment. Discipline is the key to overcoming challenges. This they learn through sessions on ‘herd dynamics.’ Learning to commit helps them to find the courage and the strength to persevere. And courage is what they need to explore the inner dynamics of life.

All our programmes focus on critical thinking, personal reflection, reading, writing, and discussion. The results expressed by the children themselves surpass all expectations. In essence, our programmes help children to reach for the best in themselves.
